| Hello and welcome to what I believe is the most important site on the internet. If you, a child you know, a friend or family member suffers with leukemia you need to read this book. Joshua had acute lymphocytic leukemia, but any leukemia is scary. But childhood leukemia seems to hit the hardest. Leukemia in child; scary headline, but it happens. Here is a story of one kid, and one dad it happened to. I hope you will read it, and in the same breath I wished no one ever had to. Jack J. Laurie, Joshua's Dad (Free E-version Down-load at the bottom of this page.) |

...no man is stronger than when he reaches down to help another... Dr. William Horton author of “Gorilla NLP” Cancer: An Ocean Of Tears. This book is not a leukemia medical How To book. Rather, Cancer : An Ocean Of Tears, is the journey of one father and his son and how they deal with the diagnosis of cancer (leukemia). Joshua's father makes his son three promises that he is duty bound to keep. This is a book about those three promises and beyond. This is a book on how to live life, not surrender it. Joshua's story will make you laugh and cry, but more importantly his story will show that each person we meet makes a difference. It is a book that shares the fantastic journey of a 13-year-old boy named Joshua, a victom of acute lymphocytic leukemia and his father's efforts to make every minute count while he was still living. In the last five years of available statistics an excess of 100,000 people will come down with leukemia. Cancer does not care who you are, what your ethnic or religious background is, or what financial status you hold. All that cancer does is try to kill you as fast as it can. A child diagnosed with leukemia, that has reached the age of ten, has a 26% chance of dying. This book is about one of those twenty-six percenters. This is a journey filled with emotion, and spirit. It is an accounting of how to live, not how to die. This book will become an essential and necessary reading for every health care professional who truly wants to understand the big picture. So too, will this heart-warming story reach out to family and friends of a cancer suffer, so that they will understand they are not alone. |
| "Cancer: An Ocean of Tears, is the moving account of a father
courageously coming to terms with his son’s grave illness and
lovingly walking with his son through the transition of dying. Jack
Laurie’s account opens a window for us into the emotional and
spiritual dynamics of illness and dying. As a trained family
therapist and a clergy person I recommend his book as required
reading for hospital staff and pastoral care givers. It gives us all a
lot to think about.” The Rev. Fred Schott, M. Div., Th. M., S. T. M. Pastor, Christ the King Church (ELCA) “The principles that are pursued in Ranger and Special Forces training were imparted from father to son at a time when strength and courage of mind and spirit was most demanded. This story isn’t about who is the most physically strong—it is about the mental toughness and attitude that determines who we are and how we deal with adversity. Joshua is representative of a hero who will live in our hearts forever and stand as an example of bravery—the likes of which we should all be proud.” Brigadier General (R) Frank J. Toney, Jr., Former Commanding General, United States Army Special Forces Command |

| “Jack Laurie shares his heart filled story of his feelings and
relationship with his son during one of life’s most crushing blows.
At times I found myself laughing out loud while at other times I
shed a parent’s tears. To understand a parent’s love every child
should read this. This book touches the reader at a place only
shared with a few.” Carol A. Kivler, author of “Blessings,” speaker, and trainer |
